As a kid, I would of course proudly declare my favorite season: SUMMER! I even experienced seasonal affective disorder in the winters which I know now was purely situational.
But as I have gotten older, and released the yolk that is “back to school,” I have come into a deep love affair with everything about FALL.
Yes I love sweaters and pumpkin spice lattes. I love the colors and the desire to start cozying up beside a fire with a good book.
In my journey of spiritual healing and coming into deeper relationship with the Earth and its ways, it has really been the changing from summer to fall that ignited my desire for seasonal living.
Over the last 5 years I have cultivated a few rituals and practices that help me spiritually and physically adjust to the changing of the season and the energy.
I find these practices so supportive in rooting, restoring and resourcing that I KNEW I had to share them with you.
5 Spiritual Practices To Welcome Fall
(For my readers in the Southern Hemisphere, these same practices are supportive at the changing from Winter to Spring)

Ayurvedic Cleanse
At the changing of Summer to Fall and Winter to Spring, I do a digestive cleanse.
Ayurveda is the sister science to yoga, an ancient Indian medicine for aligning the body with the spirit. The purpose of a cleanse within Ayurveda is to reset the digestive fire, located at our solar plexus, or agni, chakra. This is our powerhouse, the energy and drive of our spiritual systems. Resetting this fire can bring us energy, clarity, calmness, and inspiration.
Unlike most cleanses, you actually EAT on this cleanse. The difference here is that you eat the same thing for every meal for the length of the active cleanse period. In the past I started with 3 days of active cleansing.
I will not lie, this is not an easy thing to do. You will really see how attached you are to variety. And caffeine! But I have always found benefit to taking this time to recharge and reset.

2. Clear, Cleanse and Decorate Your Altar
Having an altar or sacred space really supports your spiritual connection and creates a dedicated area for your practice. The changing of the seasons is the perfect to refresh this area and bring in pieces that connect you to the energy of the moment.
An altar does not need to be something huge. Even a portion of your desk can work. Clean the area, cleanse the space with smoke, florida water or intention.
You can place some crystals and I often pick up pieces of nature and adorn my altar with them. Acorns, pumpkins, pinecones, apples are all representative of the season.
But TRUST YOUR INTUITION. Whatever represents the energy of the moment for you is what you should place on your altar space.
3. Make Seasonal Meals
This is one of my favorite activities of Fall. I always love to cook but when the weather changes it becomes a lot more pleasant to be in the kitchen.
Some fruits and vegetables that are in season in fall: winter squash, corn, apples, figs, brussel sprouts, broccoli, kale, and sweet potatoes. Let your creativity and inspiration lead the way!
I’m mostly vegan so you can google some of my fave recipes if they interest you! Pumpkin alfredo, stuffed acorn squash, roasted vegetables over lentils, and shepherds pie.
4. Share Your Harvest
Gratitude is always the theme, but it is especially poignant during the fall and winter seasons. This is a great time to share your bounty with those closest to you.
Host a seasonal dinner party! Invite your neighbors! Create and sustain community! Share all that you are grateful for!
5. Spend Time in Nature
It’s always a good time to be in, close to, connecting with nature. At the changing of the season, we can use this time in nature to allow the changing energy to infiltrate our being. To watch as the Earth begins to slow, display its bounty, and prepares for the quiet of winter. It is time for us to do the same!
I hope this practices support you as you attune to the changing energy of the seasonal shifts.
